Registration and Sign In
Do I need to register to ask a question or to bid for questions?
Yes, registration is required to ask and answer questions. Registration is easy and it only takes a moment. You will be asked to verify your email address. It's that simple!
Is registration free?
Yes, registration is absolutely free. But we invite only genuine users and require your mailing address for security and payment purposes.
Who is a Seeker?
Any user who seeks an answer, a solution or a service is fondly called a "Seeker" in the da Gurus community. You don't have to select any settings in your registration profile to indicate that you are a Seeker.
Who is a Guru?
Any user who is an expert in a particular field and chooses to bid for a question is a Guru. You don't have to select any settings in your registration profile to indicate that you are a Guru. Most Gurus maintain detailed profiles about their expertise in specific categories. Seekers browse the Guru profile information in the relevant categories before deciding which Guru to choose as a winner to answer their questions.
Can I be a Seeker and a Guru?
Absolutely. Every user can be a Seeker and a Guru at the same time. You would assume the role of either a Seeker or a Guru for a specific question. If you are asking a question, then you assume the role of a Seeker. If you are bidding or answering a question, you assume the role of a Guru. You don't have to select any settings in your registration profile to indicate that you are a Seeker or a Guru.
Why do I need to provide my address?
da Gurus may send check payments to the address provided by the users - Gurus and Seekers.
da Gurus community operates on trust and conscience and strives to allow only genuine Seekers and Gurus. Providing your address allows us to monitor and ensure that we extend our services to only genuine users.
Seekers aim to verify that your Guru profile is genuine while selecting the winning Guru to answer the Seeker's question. Gurus review the Seeker's profile and only if they find the Seeker genuine, they decide to bid for the question. Other users can see your city and it helps lend credibility to your profile and also helps them make a sound decision.
Why do I need to provide answers to security questions during the registration process?
If you forget your password, then the "
Forgot Password" tool allows you to reset your password after you answer the security questions that you had set during the registration process. This ensures that another user or a "bot" (malicious automatic / robot software) cannot reset your password.
Why do I need to click on the confirmation email link before my account is activated?
A confirmation email is sent to your email account after you submit the initial registration details. You are required to click on the confirmation link emailed to you to activate your account. This validates your email address so that another user cannot use your email address to register.
Why does the confirmation link not work when I click on that link?
Some times the confirmation link text wraps and breaks on to multiple lines. Please copy and paste the entire link into the address bar of your browser and it will work for you.
How can I delete my account?
You can email Customer Service with a request to delete your account.
What if I forget my username?
You can send an email from your email address that you used at the time of registration to Customer Service and we will email you your username is.
What if I forget or lose my password?
You can reset your password by using our "
Forgot Password" tool. You will be required to provide an answer to the security question that you had set during the registration process.
Click here to use our "
Forgot Password" tool and a new password be emailed to you.

Ask Questions
Who is a Seeker?
Any user who seeks an answer, a solution or a service is fondly called a "Seeker" in the da Gurus community. You don't have to select any settings in your registration profile to indicate that you are a Seeker.
How do I ask a question?
Asking a question on
da Gurus is simple.
- Identify which category your question pertains to.
- Describe your question in detail.
- Review your question before submitting.
How do I identify a category for my question?
Review the category options and select the one that is most relevant to your question. If there are sub-categories under the selected category, then please take a moment to select the sub-category and a sub-sub-category. You increase the chances of receiving bids from the most qualified Gurus by being more specific in the category selection.
Wrongly listing your question in an unrelated field will mean that Gurus may not see your question at all and may not bid for answering the same.
What factors should I consider while describing my question?
da Gurus provides you with all the tools that you require to describe your question such as text, picture and video.
Title of the question: A crisp description of your question. Be specific with the terms you use. For example, rather than asking, "When should I plant my flowers?", you should ask "What month should I plant Daffodils?".
Brief description of your question: This description appears in the search and categories listing that the Gurus browse to decide which questions to bid for. This description should capture all the key words about your question so that when the Gurus or other users search by keywords, they can easily find your question. Also, this description should be precise and to the point as it appears on the search and
Category listings and should be inviting enough for the Gurus to click on it to see your detailed question and bid for it.
Detailed question: Describe the question in complete detail as that allows the Gurus to understand
your question and they will provide specific solutions and answers for
your question rather than some generic information.
Should I upload a picture about my question?
Most Seekers find it very convenient to upload a picture about the question they are asking. For example, a Seeker uploaded a picture of the wooden table he was working on along with his detailed question about where to provide a slot to fit another part to that table. Most Gurus can understand your question better if you provide pictures along with your description and can then provide the best answer to it.
How do I upload a video about my question?
Most Seekers find it very convenient to take a video about their question and upload it on www.youtube.com. They then provide the YouTube Video ID on the da Gurus question form. If your YouTube video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71_p8P_PVXo then your YouTube Video ID is 71_p8P_PVXo.
Why do I need to give a detailed description of the question instead of a one line question?
If you have a one line question, then we strongly recommend searching for the answer in one of the several search sites on the Internet for free (Google, Yahoo and MSN are some of the free search sites on the Internet). Most users ask specific questions on da Gurus where that question is not freely available or accessible on the Internet and where they want an advice or answer from a Guru, an expert. You are free to ask a one line question too.
How detailed should my question be?
The more detailed, the better. Internet technological advances have not reached the stage where a picture or a video can be parsed and converted into text for searching. So, the Gurus will search by the question text. Every word in your detailed question is important and allows the maximum number of Gurus to reach your question.
Also, in case of a dispute about the Guru's answer, it will be to the Seeker's benefit if the original question text is detailed.
Can I edit my question after posting it?
A question cannot be edited after posting currently. Gurus may have already bid based on your previous information. But if a Guru asks you for a clarification about a question, then the Seeker may choose to include the clarification to be included as part of the original question.
How will Gurus come to know about my question?
Once you post a question under a category, the Gurus who have subscribed to that category, will receive an email informing them about your question. Further, Gurus may reach your question either through browsing the
Category listings or Search listing too. New Gurus may also be attracted to answer your question through an Internet search.
How do I select a Guru to answer my question?
Review the bids received for your question and use the following considerations to arrive at a decision about which
Guru to select:
- Bid Description - Review the Guru's bid description and see if the Guru has answered similar questions in the past.
- Guru Profile - Click on the Guru's link and find out about the Guru's profile and expertise in that specific category.
- Feedback - Review the feedback received by the Guru from different Seekers.
- Bid Amount - Review the bid amounts quoted by different Gurus and see which one fits your budget while keeping the Guru's profile and experience in mind.
How will the Guru know that I have selected him or her as the winner?
The moment you select a winning Guru to answer your question, an email is sent to the Guru asking them to answer your question at the earliest.
What if the Guru does not answer?
If the Guru does not answer your question within 4 days, then they receive a negative feedback on their profile that will be detrimental to their future winning prospects. Please inform Customer Service and we will credit your payment amount back to your account and reset the question so that you can select an alternate Guru as the winner.
What if I do not like the Guru's answer?
Remember that once you select a winner and the Guru answers, the payment amount is not released to the Guru until you review and accept the answer. You may ask the Guru a follow-up question if you don't understand any specific part of the Guru's answer.
If the Guru's answer is absolutely unsatisfactory or is just junk or a prank, then you may reject the answer and your payment is credited back to your account.
Use your judgment and give reasonable opportunities (by asking a follow-up question) before rejecting a Guru's answer.
How will I know when the winning Guru answers my question?
You will receive an email requesting you to review the winning Guru's answer.
What happens if I do not review the Guru's answer for 3 days?
If you do not review the answer within 3 days, then the answer will be automatically deemed to be accepted. If you have asked a follow-up question, then the 3-days limit will begin after you receive the clarification answer.

How do I come to know about questions I may be interested in answering?
You can browse the questions showcased on the home page or you can browse through the
Category listings of questions in the fields that you are interested and experienced in. You can also search questions by keywords using the search box on the website. Most Gurus update their email subscription for the preferred categories to receive email notifications about the latest questions posted in their favorite categories.
How do I bid for a question?
Review a question and if you think that you are qualified to answer it, then click on "Place a bid". You can quote the amount for which you are willing to answer a question. Add a brief note highlighting the key reasons why you should be selected as the winning Guru to answer that question. You may highlight your experience in that category / field or you may explicitly state how many answers you have provided for that specific topic. You may also set the expectation about how much time you require to answer a question. For example, if the question is about cooking a specific dish, you may state something like this when you bid for the same -
"I prepare that dish every day at my restaurant and I will answer within 6 hours of winning the bid".
Review the Seeker's profile including the feedback received by the Seeker in the past to determine how reliable the Seeker is.
How will I know that I have been selected as the winning Guru?
You will receive an email as soon as the Seeker selects you as the winning Guru.
How quickly should I answer?
Typically, the Gurus who are prompt in answering in the questions receive the best feedback and most repeat business. If you do not answer the question within 4 days, then the Seeker can void the transaction and can select another winning Guru.
What are follow-up questions and how quickly should I answer them?
A Seeker may ask a follow-up question if the Seeker does not understand any specific point in your answer. Answer them promptly so that the Seeker can then review the complete answer and accept it at the earliest.
What if the Seeker rejects my answer?
da Gurus community is run on good faith and only serious Seekers and Gurus are welcome here. The Seekers have been advised to ask a follow-up question if they do not understand a specific point in the winning Guru's answer. But if the Seeker is not convinced about the answer and is totally unsatisfied, then the Seeker may reject the answer.
The Seeker's decision is final and the winning Guru will not be paid for that answer.
What if I answer the question correctly but the Seeker still rejected the answer?
da Gurus is only a platform to bring the Gurus and the
Seekers together. If you think that the
Seeker has wrongly rejected your answer, you may report the
Seeker's abuse to the Customer Desk by giving the following details in your email:
- The question that you bid for.
- Details about your answer and why you feel that it was correct. Give reasons about why the Seeker was wrong in rejecting the answer.
If the
da Gurus administrators determine, at their sole discretion, that the
Seeker had wrongfully rejected the answer, then the
Seeker will be left with negative feedback thereby penalizing the
Seeker for future questions and alerting other Gurus about the previous abuse history of the
Seeker.
How will I come to know about new questions posted by Seekers?
You can manage your email notifications subscriptions for different categories by clicking on the "
Email Subscriptions" link on the
My Account page.
You will receive email notifications whenever new questions are posted in your subscribed category. You can select the frequency of the email notifications - instant or daily.
How can I check my account balance?
How will I receive my payment?
da Gurus will automatically send you a payment by PayPal at the end of every month where your account balance is $30 or more. The payment will be deducted out of your da Gurus account on the last day of the month and will be remitted to you on the fifteenth day of the subsequent month.
Can I receive the payment by check or money order?
Currently, we make payments through PayPal(r) only.
General Search Tips
Try different search words.
There are many words to describe any question. Try to visualize words a Seeker may use to describe the kind of questions you wish to answer. Try several different options and combinations -- but use just two or three words at a time to be sure you get a variety of results.
Use specific words instead of general ones.
For example, a search for Gardening Daffodils will return fewer, more-targeted listings than a search for Gardening.
Add or remove the letter "s" for more results.
For example, you'll get two different lists of items when you search for recipe and recipes. Try your search with and without the final "s"
Be careful when using and, or, and the.
da Gurus search engine searches for and, or, and the just like it would any other word. Use and, or, and the only if you're searching for items containing these words, such as Black and Decker Mixer.
Don't use extra punctuation.
Only use punctuation in your search if you expect it to be in the item title or description for which you're searching. Examples include t-shirt and Dr. Phil.
Consider browsing.
If you're not searching for something specific, try browsing through the category listing pages for questions.
