Detailed question

I'm planning on mounting my cabled davis VP2 onto a 5' wood fence post.

Actually, was thinking of attaching a pipe to the post and putting the
rain gauge at about 5' and then maybe putting the ISS a tad higher, if it matters.
Being resonable accurate is fine, I don't need to be the best.  I also need to
consider HOA asthetics ... so keeping it lower.  This is in the rear corner of
my yard, which is pretty far away.

Is using a copper (i.e. plumbing) pipe foolish to mount the ISS onto?  My wife likes
the idea of the copper petina effect.  Would another type of pole be better?  (i.e. steel, alumuninum, PVC?)
