Detailed question
| I have been putting newspapers and plastic bottles separately in recycling bins for years. I put all the plastic bottles in a plastic bag and then carry that bag and dump it in the recycling bin for plastic bottles. Similarly, I put all the newspapers in a plastic bag and then carry that bag to the Trash Area and dump the bag in the recycling bin for newspapers. But I recently heard somewhere that even if the whole recycling bin has one such package of newspapers that is in a plastic bag then that entire bin is contaminated and nothing in there gets recycled. I researched on the Internet and asked a few questions on some forums but did not get any definitive answers. I am skeptical about this because from a practical point of view, wouldn't all newspaper get wet if it rains (these recycle bins are not necessarily air-tight and usually let in water)? Since I have put in so much effort over the years, I wish to find the correct way of recycling and I am willing to pay up to $5 for an answer from an Environmental Guru. I need a definitive answer about what do the recycling people do consistently in all cities with the trash collected from the recycling bins and not just an opinion or view. |
