Detailed question

My wife has been pestering me for a puppy forever. I have been reasoning with her that given my job in Information Technology, we may have to relocate every 2-to-3 years. Also, we already are a busy working couple (no kids) and don't have enough time for ourselves except for the weekend. Also, I hate when some of dogs in our apartment complex howl pitifully being stuck at home alone while their owners are at work.

I would appreciate advice from someone who understands my circumstances.
  1. Should I get a dog given the above situation?
  2. If yes, which dog should I get? We like non-aggressive cute and petite dogs. We would prefer a docile dog who's not destructive at home.
  3. Also, how much time would it take up per week to generally look after the dog - walks, grooming, cleaning up, shopping for food and other needs?
  4. Where do I keep the dog while we are away at work?
  5. How much does it cost to carry a dog by air when we travel?

Finally, I have read articles that its best to adopt a dog instead of buying it from a store. I have searched on Google and read all general articles. I have also posted questions on dog forums but not many experts answered. I am now willing to pay an Expert / Professional a small fee to understand my situation and then advise. Please submit your best bids.

Which dog?

Additional clarifications about the above question:

Clarification # 1

Guru: Do the pictures show the breeds you are considering?
Are you able to afford a work week helper to come in during the day?

Seeker: Thanks for asking for the clarifications...
1) This is just a picture collage of dogs to express my confusion about what dog to select and not the breeds I am considering. Like I mentioned earlier, we would prefer a smaller, docile and friendly dog.
2) How much would a work week helper cost to come in during the day? I hope you didn't mean to hire a full time dog sitter / watcher as I can definitely not afford that.

Clarification # 2

Guru: I should ask you one more thing - have you and your wife met any dogs you particularly liked for looks, temperament or personality?
To work with me you do have to accept my bid but these questions I've asked will likely help anyone who you choose to work with :)

Seeker: I don't necessarily know all these dog breeds by name but I searched the Google images to put breed names to the dog faces we have seen and liked. For example, I didn't know this dog breed was called Wheaten Terriers.

Rest of the ones I know and like are Cocker Spaniel, Pomeranian, Pekingese, etc. I want to strike a balance and not get carried away in trying to find an exotic breed. Just a simple, small, friendly and peaceful dog that I can afford and that we can care for humanely.
